Just Keep Going
It is often said the only way to fail is to give up.
Even if we haven’t reached our destination, the only way to be sure we won’t get there is to turn around.
In the course of getting where we want we are often off course.
Distractions seem to find a way to test our commitment.
They challenge us to ask how bad we really want something.
The way to diminish those challenges is to face them and continue to just keep going.
How long would you give a child to learn to walk?
One of my favorite Tony Robbins examples is that of teaching a child to walk.
He asks, how long would you give a child to walk before you just gave up on it?
It’s almost comical because I think all of us would never give up on that.
As elementary as the example is, it reminds me that when we don’t give up we are often met with our accomplishment or something better.
But children don’t deal with one of the biggest detractors from our dreams.
Our own minds and the foundation of our own self talk.
The difference in our capacities to do great things is not large from one person to the next.
The difference often lies in our mindset.
We are all capable of more than we think we are.
What if you knew you could do anything?
What would you work on?
What would you do?
Unfortunately the reason we don’t is because we think we are not capable.
But remember its all in our minds and we can train our minds to work for us and not against us.
Ultimately it’s not on the outside but on the inside that all great accomplishments are formed and are seen through to fruition.
The outside is first created on the inside.
What are we after?
It seems to me, that we are all after a feeling of life or a state of mind.
We want things not because of what those things will mean in our external existence.
But because of what they will do for our internal existence.
We don’t want a car just to have a car.
We want a car because of the sense of freedom to go where we want and when we want.
Maybe it’s to entertain friends and the feelings of unity.
Or maybe its just to get to work to create that feeling of security that tomorrow we will have a roof over our heads.
Most things are desired because of a feeling or a state of mind they will bring forth.
It makes you wonder what state of mind are you after and how can you get there?
What I am after?
It’s been a while since I have written anything here.
Those distractions I mentioned earlier got the best of me but, not for too long.
It didn’t take long to remember why I write.
That in some way maybe my thoughts, experiences and ideas have and can help others.
And you know, I have received some amazing comments from people expressing their gratitude.
Not only on this site but all over the web.
To know that in some ways I am able to make some peoples days and lives a little brighter is just amazing.
Its those feelings I am after.
The ones that remind me that life is a lot brighter through what we can give.
That the hours and hours spent writing are just seconds in the face of the feelings that are created.
Turns out it’s not me that inspires me, but you and others that remind me of the greatest feelings I get to experience in my life.
Things usually get the hardest right before the finish line.
We want to give up, things get blurred and difficult.
To turn around seems so enticing.
However, in my experience the feeling of accomplishment is the best feeling in the world.
To know that it may have been easier to turn around but you didn’t.
You stuck with it and succeeded.
It’s a feeling that will never be sold in stores and if it was you best believe it would not be cheap.
Beyond your achievement.
So often we get where we wanted and then think well what next?
The thing we wanted so badly has finally arrived and now we don’t know where to put our energy.
I guess that’s for all of us to choose.
But, I also think that is why it’s not about the achievement.
Its about learning to love the journey.
To make every day your best.
To keep going and know that at the end of one journey you will create another.
All the while stockpiling memories of a life well lived.
It’s your life that no one else gets to create but you.
Just keep going my friend.
