Passion and Purpose: The Last Two Missing Ingredients

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.

Passion and Purpose: The Last Two Missing Ingredients

In the recipe of my life I failed to include the two most important ingredients.

Who would have thought that just adding motivation, focus, a good strategy, passion and purpose could have changed the taste of the life I have made.

It was important for me to discover why I made the mistake of not following my passion.

All the books and tapes always told me to find what I am passionate about. They encouraged me to start there and build upon that.

I ignored them.

Always thinking that I would do something else first to secure my financial future and then get on the path to living my passions.

I also disillusioned myself by thinking that if I did what I loved for work than I would no longer love it.

The ego has a funny way of doing it’s bidding in our lives.

It deterred me for most of my life.

I never understood the importance of this until now.

How even if we are working it should be doing what we love.

Doing something that fulfills us and makes us want to be great at it.

Just imagine everyday on your way to work you were excited to get there.

I have to imagine that most of us, just like me don’t get too excited when we get ready for work in the morning.

Those days that we wish we could be doing something else. That something else is usually something we love.

And if it’s not our passion, within it is usually a big clue.

What do you love to do?

What would you be doing everyday if you could?

Where did the best feelings you ever had in your life come from?

These are just some of many questions I have asked myself to find my passions.

What’s better is sometimes they find you.

But I believe that is a little deeper than just the answers we receive.

It’s the thing that burns from deep within. Begging to come out and be part of your life.

Our passions are just one of many things that make us unique.

When we find it we separate ourselves from the multitude of others.

Reminding us of how special we really are and making our lives simpler.

If only I had been passionate about the things I did in the past I may not have failed as much as I have.

It was also important for me to understand why I ignored my purpose for way too long.

We were all put her for a unique and special reason.

Each one of us has a special gift to give to the world.

It is said that every individual person is 99% better at something than the rest of the world. However, most of us never find it.

For the first time in my life I feel that I am on purpose.

Our purpose is what will guide us to make the best decisions in any endeavor.

It’s like the mission statement for a company.

The more simple and direct it is the easier to follow.

Life is not about doing more, it’s about doing less and getting better results.

Focusing on only whats really important. Our purpose can help us do that.

You don’t have to think when you are on purpose. It’s a greater knowing that just guides you.

It’s the wisdom of ourselves that we courageously act upon.

Now finding my purpose is something I did a few years back. The problem is I ignored it for one too many years.

I just refused to look at it all though I had it memorized.

Ignoring it, just like my heart and never letting it out.

As I write these words I am not thinking if they are good or bad, right or wrong.

I believe that my purpose is to help people in their lives and I trust that in doing that the best will come out.

I could go on and on about how not following my purpose was one of the worst mistakes I made and how it made my endeavors more difficult.

But that does not serve me, so I will take it as a learning lesson just as my other previous mistakes.

And I will still make mistakes.

It just won’t be the ones where I am spending most of my time on things that do not fulfill me.

Going forward with motivation, focus, a plan, passion and purpose I feel that I mixing the winning ingredients.

Just like the rest of us who decide our fate, I am destined for something wonderful in this life.

If I hadn’t taken the time to really do some introspection I may not be as confident this time around.

This time my structures will be built on a stronger foundation.

And although the structures I have put up before have fallen.

This time I will just use better bricks.

The ones I have found, after looking at the rubble of my previous failures.

It’s never too late to start again.

If we fall we just get up, never failing because we refuse to stay down.

Something new is waiting for all of us to find it.

We are all destined to be something great and with passion and purpose it will find us quicker than we might expect.

Don’t forget it’s never too late.

I would love for you to join me here as I start again.

With passion and purpose,

Burton Seligman

  • Hello again, it’s funny how once you get awakened to life, it’s as if you have a clear vision to purpose.
I had struggled with finding my way because of insecurities and of early life decisions. I knew deep down what I wanted but had no direction to get there. Nutrition has always been a passion of mine but didn’t have the confidence to go after it. Once I started taking classes and knowing I am capable, and the joy of learning opened in front of me…what I learned from the schooling was not just the book work but confidence in self, integrity and to follow through with what I started, half way is not good enough. To get somewhere in life, one needs to complete what you start, with the best of your ability, it is surprising how far one can go.
So many go through life faking it, thinking that they are on a path but trying to take short cut, it the longer harder road that builds character and integrity.
Live life with purpose and integrity

    • Rose,

You are an inspiration to all of us. Knowing you personally I can attest to how far you have come in such a short period of time. I am so proud of you and your example inspires me. I am sure it has also inspired others who have had the pleasure to be around you. I can’t agree more that the most difficult things in life hold the greatest rewards. It’s in looking back at the path that we find our greatest satisfaction. I also agree that there are no short cuts to a fulfilling life. It takes time, patience, confidence, skills and most importantly, desire. There is just so much wisdom in your comment that I will just tell anyone who sees this to look above. Thank you so much for visiting again and leaving such wonderful comments.

  • I could not agree more.. I was working since I was 17 but the problem is the job that I have is not something I am really passionate about. Yes,i can motivate myself by looking forward to better side but i still have this feeling that something is missing.
A person can be more productive is he loves what he do and if he is passionate about it.
As for the purpose, I really don’t
know it yet… but right now i believe that my mission is to help my family

  • Bluedreamer,

Helping your family is a great purpose to have. We often do more for others than we will do for ourselves. As you help your family, you can expand to help more people that you care about. You can even find your passion by looking at your current job and listing all the things you don’t like about it. The opposite of those things will guide you to what you may be passionate about doing.

  • Great Website, I agree all lot of people have lost there passion. Everyone seems so involved in trying to just get by day by day they lose the passion in their lives. Keep up the good work and I will be following your success.

    • Steven,

Thank you for the great comment. When trying to live your passion I think a lot of people miss the fact that after all the hard work in the beginning, we get to live our passion for the rest of our lives. It may take six months or a year or maybe five, but after that life is so much more beautiful. These are the thoughts that keep me going. I look forward to your next visit.
